Hyderabad: Police awareness campaign targets growing ‘Revenge porn’

HYDERABAD: Revenge porn, the uglier side of relationships is on rise across Hyderabad.

The so-called revenge porn is the cruellest method of coping for jilted partners or lovers which has taken over the cyberspace.

Nearly 12 to 15 cases of revenge porn are reported to police every month by victims.

This calculated behaviour of the jilted lovers intended to completely malign the reputation is seems becoming prevalent.

Therefore, to prevent the suffering, the City police are creating awareness among women not to share or post intimate pictures or videos of an ex-lover or spouse or with anyone.

According to The New Indian Express report, at least 60 such complaints has been reported in the last six months in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissioners where men sharing explicit media of women without consent.

There are several cases where jilted lovers way out to vilify their ex-partners with certain images that are defamatory in nature.

Even though, the police based on complaints from victims take down obscene material, it is almost impossible to completely obliterate.

Cyberabad ACP S Jayaram said the awareness videos will play at public places and at movie halls across the state.

“People should respect the privacy of their partner and not resort to such offences. We are making videos to create awareness among women, especially teenagers, who are highly prone to harassment.”
