Hyderabad: Woman held for cheating men on Facebook

Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime Cell of the Central Crime Station has arrested a woman who allegedly trapped several gullible persons on the pretext of friendship. Vinamrata Raman, who had previously worked in hotels at Goa and Pune, develops friendship with the men on Facebook and later cheats them. Presently she is working at a restaurant in Jubilee Hills.

As reported by the Deccan Chronicle, her modus operandi was that, she befriended men on FB, had long chats and demanded money from them only to cheat them later. This time her plan failed when she tried to cheat one Shubham Gupta and she was finally arrested.

According to the police, her latest victim Mr. Gupta lodged a complaint with the police stating that the accused took Rs 10,000 from him through IMPS for booking hotel room at Goa. He came into contact with her through FB where she had mentioned in her profile that she was working in Goa as a travel agent. Vinamrata agreed to get the room booked for three days at the rate of Rs. 7,000 per day, but asked Gupta to pay Rs 10,000 in advance. Gupta trusted her and deposited Rs 10,000 in her account and waited for confirmation receipt which the accused had said that will be sent to his email address. However Gupta found that he was cheated as he neither got receipt nor could reach Vinamrata, whose phone was found switched off and her FB profile was also deactivated.

Acting upon the complaint lodged by Gupta the police traced the accused to Jubilee Hills and arrested her.

Police said she had also cheated other men and are carrying out a thorough investigation.
