IB officer killed by insurgents in Meghalaya

New Delhi: A young officer of the Intelligence Bureau was killed by insurgents in South Garo hills in Meghalaya.

Official sources said the officer, who is a new recruit in the rank of an Inspector, was kidnapped along with another person in South Garo hills when militants intercepted a Tata Sumo vehicle yesterday.

His body was found today, the official said. The fate of the other person was not known.

Sources said a new group called ASAC, a breakaway faction of ANVC, a known militant group in Meghalaya, was suspected to be behind the the kidnapping and killing of the IB officer.
