India made bombs, weapons seized near BJP office; RSS activist held

Kannur: Kerala police on Tuesday arrested a man said to be activists of Sangh Parivar and seized country made bombs and other weapons that were hidden near the office of BJP at Chakkarakkal in Kannur.

According to police sources, steel bombs, swords, iron rods and axes were among the seized weapons in violence-hit Kannur district. The police said also that around 100 other weapons were recovered during the raid.

The raids were conducted in the sensitive areas of the district following the fresh spate of bloodshed in the region.

“Since tension prevails in the district, we were on our regular rounds. It was near the BJP office a group was carrying these dangerous weapons. We could nab only one from the group and all others escaped. We could identify the faces of three of them and they will be arrested soon,” Chakkarakkal Sub Inspector Biju P told The News Minute.

“When violence prevails, it is common that such groups carry weapons. So we were vigilant and had been doing patrolling especially near party offices and other party centres,” he added.

Police manage to nab one of the accused, identified as Mahesh,35, while others group of Sangh Parivar activists, escaped.

“There were around 10 people in the group. We could identify the faces of three of them and they will be arrested soon,” he added.
