India’s campaign at All England Open ends with Saina’s loss

Birmingham: India’s badminton campaign grinded to a halt at the All England Open Championships after world number three Saina Nehwal bowed out in the quarterfinals of the women’s singles event here on Friday.

Nehwal, who made a comeback after an injury layoff, suffered a 15-21, 16-21 defeat against Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying in a contest that lasted 40 minutes.

25-year-old Nehwal remained as the lone survivor after other Indian shuttlers proved to be a disappointment on Thursday.

Among the men, Kidambi Srikanth and the unheralded Sai Praneeth, who had created a sensation by knocking out five-time World Champion Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in the first round, were knocked of the prestigious event in the second round. (ANI)
