Indonesia Open: Shuttlers Srikanth, Prannoy eye semi-final spots

Jakarta [Indonesia]: Indian shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy will look to book their place in the semi-finals of the Indonesia Super Series Premier tournament when they take on their respective opponents in the men’s singles event here on Friday.

Srikanth and Prannoy booked their place into the quarter-finals of the tournament after registering contradictory wins.

Srikanth, who comfortably won the first game, went down in the second before rebounding strongly to post a 21-15, 20-22, 21-16 win over his Denmark opponent in a grueling second-round clash that lasted just few minutes less than an hour.

Srikanth will now lock horns with Tzu Wei Wang of Taiwan for last-four spot.

Prannoy, on the other hand, stormed into the last-eight following a 21-10, 21-18 win over LEE Chong Wei of Malaysia in a one-sided encounter that lasted 40 minutes.

He will now meet eighth-seed CHEN Long of China.

Earlier, Rio-Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu and ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal crashed out of the tournament after losing their respective closely-fought second round encounters of the women’s singles event. (ANI)
