IT industry hiring to surge in Karnataka: survey

Bengaluru: Karnataka will be the most preferred state for hiring by the IT industry in 2017, according to a joint survey by a human resource firm with a talent assessment firm and the Association of Indian University (AIU).

“Karnataka will see an increase of 5-10 per cent in hiring by the IT industry, comprising software firms, back offices like BPOs and KPOs and IT-Enabled Services (ITES),” said the survey titled ‘India Skills Report 2017’.

The survey is a joint initiative of PeopleStrong, a leading human resources solutions firm, Wheebox, a global talent assessment firm, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Linkedin, the AIU, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

“Bengaluru is a conglomeration of many technology companies, including IT majors Infosys and Wipro and a growing number of start-ups,” said Pankaj Bansal, Co-Founder and Chief Executive of PeopleStrong, in a statement here.

As per the report, start-ups and small and medium enterprises will grow at a faster pace than the traditional IT, BPO, KPO and ITES firms, resulting in an overall positive outlook.

“The preferred age group for hiring in the BPO/KPO and ITES sectors is 22-25 years and 26-29 years in the software and related sectors,” the report noted.

Gender-wise, males will account for 63 per cent and females 37 per cent in BPO, KPO and ITES, while it will be 71 per cent and 29 per cent in the software sector.
