Infant boy rescued, social worker among three arrested

New Delhi: A infant boy, who was allegedly picked up by a health worker from a government hospital earlier on Friday in Bihar’s Katihar district, was rescued and handed over to his parents, as the police arrested three persons in this connection.

Town police station in-charge K N Singh said that the boy, who is six days old, was picked up by a woman, an accredited social health worker at Sadar hospital, in the wee hours and was rescued from her sister’s house in Manmahi Chitoria locality 12 hours later. The toddler was then handed over to the his parents.

He said that three persons, including the health worker identified as Baby, her husband Amit Kumar as well as her sister were arrested and charged under relevant provisions of the law.

Baby confessed to the crime and said that she proposed to sell the infant boy for Rs 10,000, Singh said.

The boy was born through the cesarean section to Anjali Devi at Sadar hospital six days ago, the police officer said.
