‘Injured’ Svetlana pulls out of Citi Open

Johannesburg, August 6: Defending champion Svetlana Kuznetsova has pulled out of the Citi Open after suffering from an injury to her lower left leg.

Kuznetsova was set to lock horns with Sloane Stephens in the second round, who has now moved to the quarterfinals by a walkover.

The two-time Grand Slam winner said she feels sorry for withdrawing from the tournament, adding that her body doesn’t feel up to it, Sport24 reported.

The fourth-seeded Kuznetsova had earlier won her first-round match beating qualifier Sanaz Marand in straight sets.

The Citi open tournament announced her withdrawal on Wednesday night. (ANI)
