Iran train collision: Number of casualties may exceed 140

Semnan [Iran]: Deputy Chairman of the Red Crescent Society for Relief and Rescue operation Ali Yahyaei said on Friday that the number of killed passengers might grow to 40 with the number of injured people to stand about 100.

He said the extent of the incident is very huge, reports the Islamic Republic News Agency.

Some of the passengers were charred in fire and exact number of casualties is impossible at this juncture, he said.

The trains destined from Tabriz-Mashad and Mashad-Semnan collided at Haftkhan station in Shahroud and Damqan on Friday morning.

So far, at least 31 people have been killed and investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. (ANI)
