Jana urges PM to enact law to prevent political defections

Making it clear that he will approach the Court on defections, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader K Jana Reddy has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make an Act against party defections. He also said the Congress party will extend cooperation in this regard to the ruling party BJP.

Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan here on Thursday, Jana Reddy called upon the people to teach a fitting lesson to the party defectors. He said defecting from one party to another by MLAs and MLCs was undemocratic. He reminded that he had joined the Congress only after tendering resignation to the Telugu Desam party. Stating that the Congress party never encouraged defections, Jana Reddy suggested to the government to bring an Act to make defecting MLAs as ineligible.

Describing the party defection of Makthal MLA Chittem Rammohan Reddy, who joined TRS party on Wednesday, as heinous, Jana Reddy said there was no response from Speaker S Madhusudana Chary though the Congress party requested him to initiate action against defecting MLAs. He demanded that the government amend the Anti-Defection Act suitably. (NSS)
