Chennai: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Thursday thanked the Supreme Court for giving ‘favourable’ verdicts to Tamil Nadu and said party chief J. Jayalalithaa is the only Chief Minister who can succeed in getting Cauvery to the state.
Speaking to ANI, AIADMK leader C.R.Saraswathy accused its principal opposition party, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), who have been holding ‘Rail roko’ protest against the Cauvery verdict, of creating political drama over the issue.
“I think I must thank the Supreme Court, they are giving some favourable answers to Tamil Nadu. Our Chief Minister Jayalalithaa will take step accordingly because she is keen on getting Cauvery regularly to Tamil Nadu. The only CM who can succeed in getting Cauvery is our CM,” she said.
“DMK is just doing drama that’s all. When they were in power they never did anything but now they want to show as if they are really bothered by it. They are just creating a political drama,” she added.
DMK treasurer MK Stalin on Monday led his party’s ‘Rail Roko’ demonstration over the Cauvery issue in Chennai.
Protests continue in Tamil Nadu demanding that the Union Government ought to set-up the Cauvery Management Board in order to resolve the deadlock between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Keeping its pressure on the ruling AIADMK over the Cauvery conflict, a 48-hour ‘rail roko’ agitation was called by the farmers’ organisations.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Karnataka to continue releasing 2000 cusecs per day to Tamil Nadu till further orders are given and also urged both states to ensure peace and harmony remains amidst the dispute. A newly appointed Supreme Court bench was set up to hear all issues arising from the Cauvery water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. (ANI)
