Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Monday announced a solatium of Rs one crore to the family of a policeman who lost his life while nabbing chain snatchers.
Jayalalithaa said a police team comprising a Sub-Inspector and Head Constables Munusamy and Dhanapal tried to nab suspected members of a chain snatching gang in Krishnagiri district on June 15.
But the suspects stabbed Munusamy who died in a hospital, she told the state assembly. She said though a solatium of Rs 500,000 was ordered to be paid to Munusamy’s family under the existing rules, it was felt that the amount was not sufficient.
Jayalalithaa said she has ordered a sum of Rs one crore to be paid to the family of Munusamy. She said the state government will take care of the educational expenses of Munusamy’s daughter Rakshna.
Jayalalithaa said a new government order will be issued increasing the compensation to be paid to police personnel who die or get injured on duty.
