JNU row: Umar Khalid, Anirban’s three-day custody ends today

New Delhi: With the three-day police custody of Jawaharlal Nehru University students Umar Khalid , Anirban Bhattacharya ending today, the Delhi police will produce both of them in a makeshift court room following an order by the Delhi High Court to “maintain confidentiality” during their remand proceedings.

Earlier, on Thursday the police had demanded a seven-day custody for the duo, who allegedly organised a controversial event at the JNU on February 9 where anti-India slogans were raised.

The police has also interrogated JNU Students` Union President Kanhaiya Kumar and the other two together in the alleged anti-national sloganeering case.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court had ordered to “maintain confidentiality” during the remand proceedings of the students and directed the police to ensure that no one “suffers even a scratch” and there is no ruckus this time.

The Delhi High Court had earlier adjourned the bail plea hearing of JNUSU president Kanhaiya, to February 29 after the Delhi Police said they will seek further police remand to interrogate him.
