Join Telangana Harithaharam program in advance, GHMC Commissioner

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commissioner (GHMC) Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy today appealed to all the Government Heads of the Departments and NGOs to be prepared and join hands with the GHMC for taking up Telangana Harithaharam program well in advance and to reach the target of the planting one crore plants this year as per the expectations of the State Government.

The Commissioner said that all the Government heads of the Departments and NGOs have made possible to reach the target more than that of the expectations from 81 to 84 lakh plantation last year. On the same lines, everyone should take the responsibility to make the program this year also a grand success. The Commissioner said that the GHMC is the coordinator for the Telangana Harithaharam program and all the Government heads and NGOs must have equal responsibility to take up these plantation to reach the target and see that proper maintenance of the plants etc., to pre visit the sites to have maximum survival rate more than that of a last year 90%.

The Commissioner has directed all the Zonal and Deputy Commissioners to conduct a meeting with all the Government Heads of the Departments and NGOs of the their jurisdiction for effective implementation of plantation program and to assign targets to derive good results.  The Commissioner also directed the officials to see the survival rate on top priority and wherever need is there for translocation of trees / plants etc., due to various reasons like road widening etc., to be taken proper care for better results.

Shiva Prasad, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police has interacted with all the participants and explained to take up the plantation in such a manner that survival rate should be maintained and also to take up plantation in such a manner to reach the target assigned and assured that maximum help, support and service  will be taken care from the Police Department.

Earlier  C.N. Raghu Prasad, Additional Commissioner (UB) explained about the Harithaharam project through Power Point Presentation last year achievements and this year action plan for the year 2017-18 under various categories of plantation such as open spaces, green ways, river side plantation, avenue plantations, home stead plantation etc., about 46 departments and organization representatives have participated in the meeting and given various valuable suggestions for effective implementation of the Harithaharam.

Dr. Rao from Pragathi Resorts explained about the important of the medicinal plants and suggested to take up some of the parks in this concept.  Additional Commissioner (UB) said that, 100 new parks with different concepts like smithivanam and theme parks etc., will be taken up in this year action plan.

Zonal Commissioners, Ms. Harichandana,  Gangadhar Reddy,  Srinivas Reddy,  J. Shankaraiah,  Damodar, Director, UB and senior officials of Urban Biodiversity wing and other Government Heads of the Departments and NGOs have participated in the meeting. (NSS)
