JP welcomes imposition of President’s rule in U’khand

New Delhi : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shyam Jaju on Sunday said the purpose has been solved with imposition of President’s rule in Uttarakhand as the hill state was witnessing misrule and corruption.

The BJP leader also used the occasion to take potshots at former chief minister Harish Rawat, who had earlier been accused of indulging in horse-trading to save his government.

“We have been waiting from yesterday. The state has been witnessing misrule, corruption, murder of democracy. The entire nation has seen to what extent the Chief Minister can go to turn his minority government into majority,” Jaju told ANI here.

“In order to prevent all these, we met the President and apprised him of the situation to free Uttarakhand from the political crisis. We were hopeful of this,” he added.

Jaju further said the foundation of a peaceful state Uttarakhand had come under crisis, adding that the people were extremely disappointed with the Congress government in the state.

“There was only one way and that was to dissolve the minority government. Now, the purpose has been solved with the President’s rule in the state,” he added.

The BJP leader’s remark came after the imposition of President’s rule in Uttarakhand.

The Uttarakhand Assembly has been kept in suspended animation following President’s rule in the state.

The recommendation for central rule was made by the Union Cabinet at its emergency meeting last night, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier, Harish Rawat-led Uttarakhand government had been asked to prove its majority by March 28, after nine rebel MLAs of the Congress sided with the Opposition BJP to destabilise the government.

Rawat, however, maintained that he was ready to prove his majority in the assembly after the BJP asserted that it had the support of rebel Congress MLAs and should be invited to form government as the incumbent Congress dispensation had been reduced to a minority.

Rawat earlier accused the BJP of attempting to murder democracy and the Constitution with their ulterior motive of demanding the imposition of President’s rule in the hill state.

Rawat alleged that the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre was attempting to conspire against the Uttarakhand Government, adding that it was not at all acceptable in a federal system. (ANI)
