Kamal Nath rebuffs charges, questions BJP’s sudden awakening

New Delhi : Congress leader Kamal Nath who is under fire after being appointed as the party in charge of Punjab affairs on Monday questioned the sudden awakening of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) over his alleged involvement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and added that he has been given a clean chit in this regard.

Nath told ANI, “The BJP and the SAD did not level any allegation against me in the past 32 years and the Aam Aadmi Party, which was not even born then, is levelling accusations.”

“Someone had lodged a complaint before the Nanavati Commission and that too after 21 years. The Nanavati Commission said that I had no role to play in the riots,” he added.

The AAP and the BJP earlier today accused the Congress of not being bothered about the state and only caring about people having money and muscle power.

AAP leader and senior lawmaker H.S. Phoolka said Nath was the one leader, who was leading a mob at Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib on November 1, 1984 and the mob had set the gurduwara on fire.

The Congress Party on Sunday made important changes in its leadership in three states, including Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, where the polls are due to be held next year. (ANI)
