Karimnagar gangrape: Cong seeks ex gratia for victim

Karimnagar: Accusing Telangana government of shirking responsibility, Congress today demanded an ex gratia relief and government job for the 22-year-old girl who was allegedly gangraped here last month.

Former Congress ministers Sabitha Indra Reddy, J Geetha Reddy and V Sunitha Reddy visited the victim in Challoor village in Veenavanka mandal and also interacted with her family members.

“We demand that government announce ex gratia to the victim and provide her with a government job. The government must ensure that the accused are punished,” they said, adding that the government has failed to act responsibly in the matter.

The woman, studying for police recruitment examination at a coaching class in the district, was allegedly gangraped by a youth and a teenager, while another juvenile recorded the act on his mobile phone.

The incident had taken place on the outskirts of Veenavanka village on February 10 when the three youths, the complainant, and her woman friend were returning home after watching a movie.

While one of the women was raped on a hillock, another managed to flee.

Police arrested the youth, identified as G Srinivas on February 28, and took two juveniles into custody.
