Karnataka Cop rapes mentally challenged woman, arrested

Tumkur: A police officer in Karnataka’s Tumakuru was arrested after he allegedly raped a 30-year-old mentally challenged woman on Saturday.

The victim left her home without informing her family after she had a fight with her family. She was wandering near a bridge at Antharasanahalli bypass. That night ASI  Umesh was on night duty when he saw her alone, he promised to take her back home and allegedly raped her.

Tumakuru superintendent of police Isha Pant said. “She gave Umesh the phone number of her brother, and he told her to get into a Bolero that was nearby on the pretext of dropping her home.”

After raping her, he dropped her home in a police jeep about 3.30am.  The victim narrated the incident to her mother. Her mother lodged a complaint at the Tumakuru women’s police station on Sunday afternoon.

The police registered a case and sent the victim for medical examination.

IGP central range Karnataka, Seemanth Kumar Singh said. “We have also arrested the driver of the car in which the ASI took the victim along. The police officer has been suspended and arrested as of now. The complaint was filed on Sunday.”
