KCR stresses on people-friendly policing

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao said that the participation of common public was essential for maintaining Law & Order in the society and police alone could not be held responsible for it.

Speaking after laying foundation stone for Police Command & Control Centre at Road No. 10, Banjara Hills, here on Sunday, the Chief Minister claimed that there has been a change in the attitude, language and overall behavior of police personnel after the formation of Telangana State. He said police officials have been speaking with the people in a friendly manner. He said Hyderabad police have earned a good reputation across the country with its good behavior.

The Chief Minister said that the Command and Control Centre was being established to ensure better policing in the city. The Centre will have one 24-floor tower, while another tower will have 17-floors. He informed that Rs. 302 crore have been allotted for this project, although the total cost could exceed Rs. 700 crore.

KCR said that the process of installation of one lakh CC cameras across the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad has already begun. He appealed to the corporates to fund the project. He also urged the MPs and MLAs to allocate some amount under their funds. He said nearly Rs. 100 crore were required for installation of nearly one lakh cameras.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the traffic management in countries like China and Singapore is done using technology and the violators are identified within two-three minutes. He said that the Command and Control Centre too function on the same model.

Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatraya asked the officials to stay alert to counter the threats like terrorism. He hoped that the Centre, equipped with all modern technologies, would be helpful in better policing.

Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy announced that the process of recruitment in police department would be initiated soon. He also reiterated that 33% of police jobs would be reserved for women.

Addressing the function, MIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi advised police officials to keep a tab on the social media network which has posed a major challenge in maintaining Law & Order.

Hanumantha Rao, MLAs Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Ahmed Balala, Jaffer Hussain Meraj, Ramchandra Reddy, Maganti Gopinath, G. Saianna, Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy and other senior officials. (INN)
