KCR unveils Kalam statue at DRDO; Pays tributes to “missile man”

Hyderabad: Unveiling a bronze statue of former President late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at DRDO here to mark 84th birth anniversary, Chief Minister K Chandraekhar Rao today said the city raised its head in proud. KCR extended thanks to the Centre for its consent to rechristen the research center as DRDO APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex.
Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar abstained from attending the event as he was reportedly busy with a similar program at Delhi DRDO wherein Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled Kalam’s statue.
Paying glowing tributes to Kalam, KCR stated he is fortunate to unveil the statue, who used to stay in a small room in DRDO during his stint and conducted many missile tests at ISRO. He said Kalam’s services as scientist spread India’s name across the continents, while Pokhran Test was reflection of caliber and capabilities in the chosen domain. To serve the poor with heart ailments, Kalam came up with cheap stents, KCR recalled. The Chief Minister exhorted the youth and people to emulate Kalam and pay real tributes to him. The “missile man” had two decade long association with Hyderabad. Kalam was a great scientist who rose to become President of India and led a very simple life, KCR noted. Indeed, Kalam is ideal to all and ignited the minds of the youth and talent and inspired many leaders, KCR averred. (NSS)
