Keep military actions out of political propaganda: Congress to Centre

New Delhi [India]: Amid questions being raised over the authenticity of the surgical strikes carried out by Indian Army across the Line of Control, the Congress Party on Wednesday said that the Centre must take an initiative to clarify all the doubts while adding that the actions of the military must not be subjected to political propaganda.

“Congress’ stand is clear on surgical strike. I don’t think that anybody has got any doubt about the Congress stand on whole episode. Even Rahul Gandhi extended his support to PM Modi, and we fully support this government on surgical strike,” Congress leader P.C. Chacko told ANI.

“Surgical strikes are never taken on a political level and that was never interpreted or taken advantage politically in the past so when they deviated from all this norms and now they are in confusion. They are many people, Kejriwal said something and somebody else said something and all these things are for them to answer. If any doubt is cast on the whole thing it is up to the government to clear that,” he added.

On Tuesday, Congress leader, Sanjay Nirupam also courted controversy calling on the Centre to give proof of the surgical strike that took place in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), while asserting that India was, by not doing so, being insulted by Pakistan in the international arena.

However, minutes after his comments, Congress distanced itself from it member.

“Congress doesn’t agree with the statements made by Sanjay Nirupam, we have taken a serious note of it. The Congress fully trusts the Indian Army,” Congress leader Surjewala said.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Congress leader P.Chindambaram also drew flak from Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for demanding proof on the surgical strike. (ANI)
