Kerala Assembly offers support to rain-hit Chennai

Kerala Assembly today offered complete support to the people of rain-hit Chennai, who are stranded in the heavy downpour which lashed the Tamil Nadu capital for the last three days.

After the question hour session, Speaker N Sakthan brought the issue of flood situation in Chennai before the House.

“Chennai is now facing the worst down power in the century. People are frightened. Over 100 people died so far.

Kerala is sharing the grief of people of Tamil Nadu and we extend them total support,” he said.

He said the state Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala had talked to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and requested all support for the safety of Malayalies stranded there.

The Speaker also shared the concern of the disruption of communication facilities at the rain-battered city and difficulty to communicate with Keralites there.

Meanwhile later talking to reporters after a cabinet meeting here, State Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said state had offered every possible help to neighbouring state to over the crisis.
