Kerala: Temple serves Iftar to 400 Muslims

Mallapuram: Located in a Muslim-dominated area, the Lekshmi Narasimha Murthy Vishnu Temple in Malappuram on Thursday conducted an Iftar party for Muslims.

Four hundred Muslims along with the people of other faith got together to have Iftar, which was organised in the first week of the holy month. The food served was vegetarian and the move was taken to encourage communal harmony and brotherhood.

The temple is located in Vettichira area of Mallapuram District of Kerala whose restoration has been funded by Muslims as well, reported the Indian Express.

PT Mohanan, temple’s Committee Secretary, said residents here have grown up in an atmosphere of religious harmony.

“What matters for us is humanity, not religion. Everybody has a right to follow their religion or caste,” he said. This does not imply that you cannot befriend to people of other religions, he added.

The guests also ate Sadhya, a traditional vegetarian Kerala feast served on a banana leaf, to restore the ritual of the temple.
