Hyderabad: Helicopter joy ride was launched in March this year. Starting from Necklace Road, the ride covered places like Birla Mandir, Buddha Statue, Charminar, Falaknuma Palace, Salarjung Museum, Hi-tech City, Golconda Fort, State Assembly, Hyderabad High Court and Public Gardens. Tourism officials operated a four-seater helicopter from a specially-erected helipad near Jalvihar on the Necklace Road.
IT minister Mr. KT Rama Rao launched helicopter joy ride with much fanfare but the project launch in March 2016 was put on hold within a few days. Siasat daily had then itself revealed that the project was launched without the permission of Union Aviation Ministry. Siasat’s apprehension came true and the ministry embargoed it.
City denizens who were excited about the thrill of aerial view of important tourist spots in the city are now disappointed. Lofty claims were made by the government regarding the project but now that the government is silent over the matter. Government had also made several other announcements for tourists like amphibious bus etc. but no sincerity is maintained in that too.
