Lacklustre response to Urdu Book Fair, organisers disappointed

The Urdu Book Fair has been running at Quli Qutub Shah Stadium opposite High Court for the past 6 days. 80 publishers have set up 120 stalls in the Kitab Mela where books on various subjects are available at discounted rates. The book Fair is organised in Hyderabad after every 5 years to promote Urdu language and encourage publishers. But this year organisers of Urdu Book Fair faced disappointment due to lacklustre response by Urdu lovers.

National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) has issued funds to State Urdu Academy to conduct cultural programmes but the organisers have not received any cooperation from Urdu Academy Telangana regarding publicity of Book Fair. All the expenses of Book Fair are borne by National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) but the organisers are not getting cooperation from local Urdu organisations and institutions.

Organisers observed that the number of visitors to Urdu Book Fair are diminishing every 5 years and they fear that in coming days publishers will think twice before publishing Urdu books and such book fairs will become history.
