`Larger forces` at play in Vyapam scam: Congress

New Delhi: Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Saturday said larger forces were at play in the Vyapam scam .

“It is the most amazing, shocking, multi-states death case. Never before so many deaths have occurred in one case. We were happy that after the Supreme Court intervened, there was a dramatic and sudden drop in deaths, and that tells its own story” Singhvi told ANI.

“It is clear indication of a larger conspiracy. It is a clear indication of the larger forces at work because you cannot have so many deaths in so many states of unconnected people related to one big scam,” he added.

The Vyapam scam has once again come into the news after a retired bureaucrat, who was an observer for two recruitment tests in the scam, was found dead in Odisha.

The body of retired Indian Forest Services (IFS) officer Vijay Bahadur has been found on a railway track in Jharsuguda.

All Vyapam scam related cases were recently handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Supreme Court has observed that mysterious deaths related to the scandal have “suddenly stopped” after the central agency started its probe.

The Vyapam scam is an admission and recruitment scam involving politicians, senior officials and businessmen in Madhya Pradesh.

In September, the Supreme Court had directed the CBI to take over all the 72 Vyapam scam cases which are pending trial at various courts in Madhya Pradesh.

Over 40 people linked to the scam have died under mysterious circumstances since 2013, the year when the scandal was first reported.
