Let this Diwali lighten up your skin

New Delhi, Nov 11 : The festive season is already knocking on everyone’s doors and all wish to turn out in their best, especially during Diwali, festival of lights. However, a polluted atmosphere, dirt and other forms of grime makes looking beautiful a difficult task.

India’s most-renowned beautician Shahnaz Husain is of the view that one should give special care to the skin during the festive season and take steps to remove all make up at night, as the chemical causes dryness in the skin and disrupts its normal acid-alkaline balance. Chemical elements then lead to eruptive conditions, like pimples, rashes and acne, she warns.

While she admits that bursting of crackers is par for the cause during Diwali, Husain cautions that crackers lessen humidity in the air, causing the skin lose moisture and therefore advices people to spare some time to cleanse their skin to maintain or even intensify its texture.

“One need to keep the skin moisturised and also protect it from sun exposure. Normal to dry skinned people need to cleanse their face twice a day with a cleansing gel containing ingredients like aloe vera and massage the cleanser lightly into the skin and remove it with moist cotton wool. You can also apply rose water,” Husain said.

“People with oily skin should mix one teaspoon of glycerin with 100 ml of rose water and use a little of this lotion after cleansing to moisturise the skin,” she adds.

The other home remedies that she recommended are as follows:

Apply honey on the face daily for 10 minutes and wash it off with water. You can also use an aloe vera plant or its gel as a natural moisturizer.

Rich in Vitamin A, Grate carrots can do wonders for your skin due to their anti-oxidants properties. Apply carrots on the face for 15 to 20 minutes for nourishing the skin in winter. It suits all skin types.

Mix half a teaspoon honey, one teaspoon rose water and one teaspoon dried milk powder. Mix into a paste and apply on the face. Remove after 20 minutes with water. Suits normal to dry skin. Applying mayonnaise or egg yolk on the skin also helps to relieve dryness. Suits dry skin.

Egg white is a wonderful natural cleanser for oily hair and its protein content helps to nourish the skin. Apply egg white on the hair about half-an-hour before your shampoo. To nourish dry hair, massage egg yolk or mayonnaise into the scalp. Leave it on for half an hour and then wash the hair. It helps to soften the hair and is very useful for hair that has suffered damage through colouring, straightening or perming.

Hope with these tips you will have a “beautiful” Diwali!! (ANI)
