Lucknow University steps up efforts to curb ragging, suspends 19 students

Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh, the Lucknow University has taken a serious view of ragging incidents in its campus, as the University on Friday took action against 31 senior management students accused of ragging juniors in the management hostel at its second campus at Jankipuram.

While 19 students have been suspended from the hostel, entry of 12 day scholars has been banned in the campus. A committee has also been formed to probe the incident. According to the complaint lodged by first-year management students, they were stopped by 19 senior students and 12 day scholars from different management courses, ostensibly for an introduction, on Wednesday. However, they alleged, that the seniors misbehaved with them.

LU spokesperson, NK Pandey said that that a five-member committee was formed after the proctor-in-charge of the second campus informed the proctor office about the complaint.

Those suspended cannot stay in the hostel till the committee has submitted its final report, he added. Day scholars whose entry has been barred were present in an unauthorised manner in the hostel at the time of the incident.
