Make Turban Compulsory in Place of Helmet–Two Wheeler Riders

The Telangana Two Wheeler Riders Association (TTWRA) has demanded both the State and Central Governments to make turban compulsory, in  place of helmet, and  bring about necessary amendment in Section 129 of the MV Act  accordingly.

Addressing a press conference at NSS here today, Mohd. Amanullah Khan, Convenor of  TTWRA alleged that the law makers,  while framing the compulsory helmet rule,  had indulged in misuse of powers, partiality and double standards.  He said that section 129 of the MV Act has exempted the Sikhs from wearing helmets since they wear traditional turbans.  He regretted that similar exemption is not granted to persons other thank Sikh Community also to wear turbans.   This is nothing but practical violation of human rights. As such, our association has decided to launch “Helmet Hataao- Pagdi Laao” a “do or die” agitation shortly.

            K. Lakshmi Narsaiah, Mohd. Azeemuddin, Liaqath Ali  also spoke. (NSS)
