Makkah Masjid roof cries for attention

Despite repeated representations by Minority Welfare Department to prevent historical Makkah Masjid’s roof from getting damaged, government’s heedlessness has caused further damage to the masjid roof.

As a result of heavy rain continued for the past few days several parts of the masjid roof have developed cracks and water is seeping into the interior part of the masjid. Makkah Masjid authorities are worried over the condition of the roof. They fear that if the seepage of water is not stopped immediately the plaster of the ceiling will start falling off from several places.

Masjid authorities had informed Minority Welfare Department about the situation but government paid no attention towards releasing of budget. It must be recalled that Director Minority Welfare Jalaluddin Akber had inspected the masjid along with experts of Archaeological Department 8 months ago. Declaring the condition as abysmal the experts had recommended immediate repair and the cost was estimated to be Rs. 1.75 cr. However government has not released the budget so far as a result Minority Welfare Department fails to protect the historical monument.
