New Delhi: The arbitrary arrest of innocent Muslim youths across the country by the government agencies on mere suspicion or false charges levelled against them of indulging in anti national activities and denying jobs to Muslim in government sectors is generating perception among Muslims that the government of the day is biased against them.
The present government’s slogan of Sabka Saath Sab Ka Vikas came as glimpse of hope but it faded away quickly.
The recent episode of National Investigative Agencies (NIA) giving clean chit to the Hindutva terrorists like Col Purohit, Sadhvi Pragya Thakur and others have turned the perception of Muslims at large into their conviction that justice for Muslims is a far cry and exists only in theory in this country whose constitution professes no state bias on the basis of religion.
It may be noted here that on 8th September 2006 seven people were killed in Malegaon bomb blasts and later Col Purohit, Sadhvi Pragya Thakur and other alleged Hindutva terrorists were arrested by the Maharashtra ATS. Hemant Karkare chief of Mumbai ATS was later killed during the Mumbai attacks.
Karkare, an honest and sincere officer who was conferred Ashoka Chakra posthumously has also been put in the dock by the current NIA and his integrity is also being questioned. Mr Karkare had made the arrests after thorough investigation.
In fact doubts on the present government’s intentions regarding Malegaon blast case had emerged when former special public prosecutor, Rohini Salian had stated that she has been asked by the NIA to go soft on the Malegaon blasts accused after the NDA government came to power at the centre.
In the face of the present government’s pro Hindutva policies, there is strong likelihood that the policies will lead to further alienation of Indian Muslims which will damage the integrity and development of the country.
We should not forget that it was the conviction of the Muslims in pre independent India that they will not get fair treatment at the hands of Hindu dominated government which forced Jinnah and company to carve out a separate country.
Globally speaking it is the conviction of the Muslims that they are not being dealt fairly by their respective governments which leads them to isolation and extremism.
Sooner the Modi government realises the fact the better for the country as previous government under Congress regime have also failed to address the concerns of India’s largest minority.
