Mallya misusing his freedom courtesy NDA Govt.: Congress

New Delhi: Congress leader Manish Tewari on Monday alleged that the BJP-led NDA Government facilitated Vijay Mallya’s escape from the nation as a result of which the liquor baron is misusing that freedom to make all sorts of statements and claims.

Tewari, who was responding to a poser about Mallya’s UB Group denying the Enforcement Directorate’s allegation that he siphoned off nearly Rs. 430 crore from the loan extended to Kingfisher Airlines by IDBI bank for acquiring property abroad, said the fundamental question is why this government allowed the liquor baron to flee from the country.

“Sitting outside safe from the arms of the law, they can keep claiming what they want. So, therefore, this government facilitated Mr. Mallaya’s escape and now he is misusing that freedom to make all sorts of statements,” he added.

Rubbishing all charges, the UB Group yesterday said that Mallya would provide full details of foreign exchange remittances in the next few days.

“We are shocked at the allegation made by the Enforcement Department before the PMLA Court for the very first time,” the UB Group said in a statement.

“The basis of seeking a Non Bailable Warrant against our Chairman is erroneous and unjustified,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Mumbai will today pronounce its order on Enforcement Directorate’s plea for the Non Bailable Warrant (NBW) against Mallya in a money laundering case.

The special court had on Saturday reserved its order till today on the agency’s plea.

The Enforcement Directorate has alleged that Mallya diverted Rs. 430 crores for purchase of a property abroad from the Rs. 950 crores IDBI loan for his Kingfisher Airlines. (ANI)
