Mamata Banerjee likely to visit Tripura next month

Kolkata: In a bid to strengthen Trinamool Congress in Tripura where it has emerged as main opposition patry, its supremo Mamata Banerjee is likely to visit the state next month.

“We have given a few dates after the Ramzan month gets over. We are very much hopeful that Mamatadi will visit Tripura in July. Her visit will help us to strengthen the party organization in the state,” Sudip Ray Barman who led the Congress dissidents, told PTI here.

In a setback for Congress, six dissident MLAs in Tripura yesterday joined TMC which has now become main opposition party in the Left-ruled state.

The six rebel Congress MLAs submitted a letter to Tripura Assembly Speaker Ramendra Debnath saying they are quitting the party and joining Trinamool Congress.

Burman has been elected leader of the TMC legislature group and is expected to stake claim to the post of the Leader of the Opposition.
