Mamata Banerjee spurs at PM Modi on note ban says “Children say another word for PayTM is ‘Pay PM”

Patna: TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on Wednesday criticised at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying “Children these days say that the other word for Paytm is ‘PayPM’ “, Banerjee said at a demonetisation rally in Patna.

Banerjee was referring to the fact that the numbers of people using Paytm, a mobile wallet, have risen sharply following the currency ban of November 8 when the government scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. She also alleged that demonetisation gave undue benefits to Paytm.

PayTM said it has seen 35 million transactions for mobile and DTH recharges on its platform post demonetisation and registered over 100 per cent growth in its online recharges segment. The company is witnessing daily transactions worth about Rs 120 crore.

The company has crossed USD 5 billion (Over Rs 34,000 crore) Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) sales, four months ahead of its target.

She banged at Modi on grocery store Big Bazaar. Where the public State Bank of India has helped set up facilities to withdraw money, she said all these stires has also been unduly benefitted due to an alleged connection with the ruling BJP.

“Big Bazar ka Bigg Boss hamare desh ka Pradhan mantri hogaya hai,”she said.

The Trinamool chief said.”This is a financial emergency… this is an insult to women’s strength and their wealth.”
