Man dies of swine flu in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: A 42-year-old man died of swine flu at PGIMER here this evening, the first casualty of the deadly H1N1 virus here this season.

Shyam was admitted to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research here a few days ago, a PGIMER official said.

“He died due to swine flu this evening. He was admitted a few days back, but his condition worsened. The deceased was a resident of Sector 37 in Chandigarh,” he said.

Earlier, health officials had said that fresh guidelines have been issued to city hospitals directing them to remain alert after some swine flu cases were detected.

Chandigarh had recorded the first swine flu case of the season last month after a one-and-a-half-year-old girl had tested H1N1 positive.
