Man who shot at Congress leader arrested in TV9 studio

Mahesh alias Dakuru Babu, who fired at Congress leader D Yadagiri in Old Bowenpally, Secunderabad on the other day, was arrested on the TV9 channel premises here on Tuesday.

The accused, who went underground after firing at Yadagiri injuring him in Old Bowenpally, surfaced in the TV9 channel and answered all the questions posed by the media personnel. Dakuru Babu told the TV9 channel that he had come there to surrender to the police. Answering all questions posed by the mediapersons, the accused admitted to have fired at the Congress leader.

The accused explained that after murdering real estate agent Shivraj earlier, he repented for the crime and had decided to shun the criminal life. As Yadagiri was after him for some time, he suspected a threat to his life, and procured the weapon only to threaten the Congress leader. He also claimed that he had decided to commit suicide a day before the incident. But changed his mind and wanted to confront the victim face to face to settle the issue once and for all. The accused said he never wanted to physically eliminate Yadagiri but only to threaten him not to hound him.

Even as the accused was talking to the TV9, the police entered the studio and arrested the wanted accused. (NSS)
