Manish Tewari questions Kejriwal over ‘Odd-Even’ formula

New Delhi: Congress leader Manish Tewari on Tuesday asked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal certain questions over his ‘Odd-Even’ formula put forward to curb pollution in the national capital.

In a series of tweets, Tewari asked Kejriwal, “Under what Sections of Motor Vehicles Act would you challan an odd vehicle on an even day? What about vehicles registered outside Delhi coming in Delhi with All India Registration & valid driver’s license?”

Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner has also urged the Delhi people not to misuse medical emergency exemption given in the ‘Odd-Even’ formula.

“Delhi Police urges people not to misuse medical emergency exemption- of Odd Even Notification. Be truthful while claiming it,” Bassi said in a tweet.

The Congress Party had earlier lashed out at the Delhi Government for its ‘Odd-Even formula’, saying that the ‘stupid’ idea will only create chaos in the national capital once it comes into force from January 1st.

“The Odd-Even rule is a very stupid idea. And the reason for that is without augmenting public infrastructure, you (Delhi Government) are going to throw the entire city into chaos,” Tewari told ANI.

“The choice for some people would be either to die without a livelihood or to die because of air pollution. They are making the choices very starc. If the government is serious about cleaning the air of Delhi, there are smarter ways of doing it and this is completely knee-jerk you will see the chaos which will create on the streets of Delhi once this ‘Odd-Even’ begins,” he added.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s ambitious scheme, set to roll out from January 1 for 15 days, has been proposed to curb pollution in the national capital by restricting movement of private vehicles based on their registration numbers.

Violators of the scheme would attract a penalty of Rs. 2,000. VIPs, women drivers, CNG-certified vehicles, two-wheelers and those carrying the differently-abled are among the 25 categories which will be exempted from the scheme. (ANI)
