Maoists blow up Jharkhand school building

Ranchi: A day after two security personnel were killed in a gun battle with Maoists in Jharkhand’s Godda district, the militants blew up a government school in Latehar district early Sunday. Nobody was injured, police said.

According to police, the Maoists, numbering around 50, surrounded a government school situated at Serendag village of the district, around 140 km from Ranchi, and used explosives to blow the school building. Though the school building was damaged, no one was injured in the incident.

The Maoists reportedly left a pamphlet, with a warning that schools should not be used by the security forces. They also demanded that security force personnel staying in a few schools in the district should be removed.
