Married to two wives? Not eligible for Govt. school teacher job

up

UP: “All those who have two wives, both living, will be considered non-eligible for the post. Also, a female candidate who is married to a man who has two wives, both living, will also be considered non-eligible” is mentioned in the notice issued for the appointment of 3,500 Urdu teachers by Govt. of UP.

Reacting to the notice, Maulana Khalid Mahali, a member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board told that Muslims have a provision to marry four wives and hence this order is a violation of Muslim Personal Law.

However, Mr. Girish Chowdhary of UP Basic Education Department, clarified that this condition is applicable to all Govt. teachers. This has been imposed to avoid confusion in the distribution of pension.

It may be noted that there are 3500 posts of Urdu teachers to be filled in UP, out of these 101 posts are in Agra. The last date of submission of applications is 19th January. The members of Muslim Personal Law Board are of the opinion that Govt. cannot impose such a condition for the recruitment of Urdu teachers. Although, there is a provision for Muslims to marry four wives but not even 1% of the Muslims practice it.

Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan of Bareli told that such rules are discriminatory. He said that he would take up the matter with the Govt. officials of UP.
