Mathura violence: Akhilesh Yadav should immediately ask Centre for CBI probe, says BJP

New Delhi: Backing Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s assertion that there should be a CBI probe into the Mathura violence, BJP leader Vinay Katiyar on Monday said that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav should immediately write to the Centre and demand for the same so that truth comes out before public.

“The Home Minister is right. Is there the rule of law or jungle raj in Uttar Pradesh? There is jungle raj in state. A CBI enquiry should be held,” Katiyar told ANI.

“It should be revealed that under what circumstances the two policemen lost their lives. Akhilesh Yadav should immediately write to the Centre for a CBI enquiry so that truth comes before public,” he added.

The BJP leader also alleged that the state government did not want to remove the agitators.

“The police was not fully prepared when they went there. It was a complete failure on the part of state intelligence agencies,” he said.

Taking potshots at Akhikesh Yadav and his family over the recent Mathura violence, Rajnath Singh had yesterday said the Centre was ready for a CBI probe into the matter provided the Uttar Pradesh Government demands the same in writing.

“It is quite strange that such an incident has taken place. I don’t know what is happening in Uttar Pradesh,” he said while addressing a rally in Amroha.

The Home Minister said it seems there is something hidden in the entire episode.

“If the Uttar Pradesh Government wants the entire truth to come to the fore then they should request the Centre in writing and ask for a CBI probe,” he added.

Violence had erupted in Mathura on June 2 during an operation to evict members of a religious group, Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi, from government land.

The deadly clash between police and a cult group had claimed 25 lives and left hundreds other injured. (ANI)
