Maulana Abul Kalam National Award presented to Mr. Vicaruddin

Hyderabad: Dy. CM of Telangana State, Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali presented the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad National Award to Mr. Syed Vicaruddin, Chief Editor of Rehnuma-e-Deccan Urdu Daily at his residence yesterday. Present on this occasion were Mr. Syed Omer Jaleel, IAS, Secretary, Dept. of Minorities Welfare and Prof. S.A. Shukoor, Director of Urdu Academy.

It may be mentioned that every year, the birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad falling on 11th November is celebrated as Minorities Welfare Day. On this occasion an award is presented to a noted personality for his services for the community. The award consisted of Rs. 1.25 lakh, citation and a memento.

Mr. Vicaruddin termed this award as a matter of pride for him and declared that he will add a matching amount and distribute it to the deserving journalists. He also said that Rs. 10000 each would be provided to Mr. Mohammed Jaleel Pasha who actively participated in Telangana movement and Mr. Khurram Nafees, noted Urdu Journalists to meet medical expenses.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali told that Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was a journalist and CM selected a famous journalist from Hyderabad, Mr. Syed Vicaruddin. Mr. Vicaruddin services are not only recognized at national level but also at the international. He further told that Mr. Vicaruddin had strongly supported Telangana movement. His role for the cause of Palestine is commendable.

Speaking to newsmen after the award, Mr. Vicaruddin thank CM for selecting him for this award. He further told that Rehnuma-e-Deccan Urdu Daily promoted Ganga-Jamuna Civilization and raised its voice against communalism. It also played a major role in the promotion of Urdu language. He thanked CM and Dy. CM for their sound health and long life. He said that after recovering from his ailment, he would personally meet the CM to thank him for this award.

It may be mentioned that this award was to be presented at the function held at Nizam College on 11th November but to his ill health, Mr. Vicaruddin could not attend the function. In the beginning, Mr Syed Omer Jaleel presented welcome address and gave an introduction to award. Prod. S.A. Shukoor proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Meer Akbar Ali Khan, Vice President of Indo-Arab League and Maulana Syed Shah Mazhar Husaini Saberi, Dr. Syed Fazil Husain Parveez, Editor of Gawah, Urdu weekly and others were present on this occasion.
