Mid-day meal poisoning: Maha minister promises action

Thane: Maharashtra Health Minister Deepak Sawant today said action would be taken against those responsible with the food poisoning incident in a Zilla Parishad-run primary school at Kasa in neighbouring Palghar district that affected scores of students.

“Action would be initiated against those concerned after the receipt of the test reports regarding the food supplied to the students of the ZP School at Kasa-Budruk,” Sawant said after visiting the Kasa sub-district hospital.

Altogether 109 students are hospitalised and kept under observation at the facility, a day after over 200 students of class I to VII were rushed there after they complained of nausea, vomiting and giddiness on eating their mid-day meal.

The mid-day meal was supplied by the ISKCON center located at Wada in Palghar district. Police today registered a case against ISKCON for negligence.

According to a release issued by the district administration today, while 152 students were found to be normal and subsequently discharged, 109 students are presently undergoing treatment.
