Mid Manair Project will be completed soon: Telangana CM

Telangana Chief Minister KCR Rao today said the Mid Manair Project here will be completed soon.

Under the irrigation project, commissioned by the previous Congress government, a reservoir is being constructed that envisages to irrigate 1.7 lakh acres of land in Telangana.

Rao told a press conference here the project will be completed soon and that the processes have been expedited.

Referring to another irrigation project at Ichampalli village in the district, which was also proposed by the previous government, Rao said the project would have not been able to fulfil the needs of people.

After the formation of Telangana, the state has got 500 kms of Godavari corridor but due to the exclusion of seven mandals of Khammam district from Telangana, the corridor got reduced to 400 kms only, he said.

Talking about the Babli project, commissioned by the Maharashtra government across river Godavari, the chief minister said, “Due to construction of Babli (reservoir), we are not getting water from (river) Godavari. Had the previous government opposed strongly to the project, current situation would have not arrived.”

Meanwhile, on welfare schemes run by the government, Rao said Rs 25,000 crore has been allocated to Grama Jyothi project that aims to empower gram panchayats, which has been undertaken as a prestigious programme by the government.

In order to provide drinking water in the entire state, Rs 40,000 crore has been allocated to Water Grid scheme, he said.

MPTC (Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency) members will be given powers at par with powers of sarpanchas, Rao said.

Telangana finance minister Etela Rajender and others were also present at the conference.
