Minor girl rescued from borewell dead

Kanpur: The two-year-old girl, who was rescued from a borewell in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur city this evening, was declared brought dead on being brought to the hospital.

“The girl died about three to six hours before being brought to the hospital. If she fell in the morning, by afternoon she must have died. The stiffness of the body indicts that she must have died before six hours,” Professor G. N Dwiwedi, a senior doctor of Lala Lajpat Rai hospital, told reporters.

“The cause of death can only be ascertained after the post-mortem report comes,” he added.

The Indian Army rescued the girl named Khushi, who fell in a 30 feet borewell in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district.

“We got this news in the morning that a girl has fallen down in the borewell. We immediately informed the army and they quickly responded by coming here and starting the rescue operation. The Kanpur Developing Authority (KDA) team and the NDRF also assisted them,” Kanpur’s Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Avinash Singh told ANI.

Khushi’s mother Shyama said that she came to Kanpur for treatment and was staying at a relative’s place.

The borewell is one of the five dugs around the roadways colony by the Kanpur Developing Authority (KDA). The bore wells weren’t allegedly closed after the work related to soil testing was over. (ANI)
