Minor rape victim critical, Minority Commission takes suo moto

The condition of the 14-year-old girl who attempted suicide by setting herself ablaze after she was allegedly raped by her neighbour 23-year-old Naresh is said to be critical. The minor Muslim girl who was shifted to Apollo Hospital at Kanchanbagh in the city for treatment suffered 75% burns.

Andhra Pradesh State Minority Commission has taken suo moto cognizance of the incident of rape of the minor girl studying in ninth class that occurred at Bodepally village, Balkonda Mandal in Nizamabad district of Telangana.

The Commission has constituted a three-member committee comprising of woman advocates, who have visited the rape survivor and interacted with her family members. Later the committee submitted a report to Commission Chairman Mr. Abid Rasool Khan. The Commission also issued notices to Nizamabad District Collector and Superintendent of Police, seeking a detailed report over the incident.

The Commission has recommended to the State Government to sanction an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh and another five lakhs towards cost of entire treatment. It also recommended that a speedy and fair trial be conducted to punish the guilty.

Ex-Corporator Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT), Mr. Amjadullah Khan Khaled visited Apollo Hospital and interacted with victim’s parents and urged the concerned police officials to take strict action against the culprit.
