London: Indonesia’s Director General of air transportation, Suprasetyo, on Sunday revealed that the Trigana Air Service plane, which went missing today, has been located in Papua.
Suprasetyo said that the wreckage was found in the Oktabe district of Papua province, adding that details were still being verified, but villagers reported seeing the plane that was carrying 54 passengers and crew, crash into a mountain, the CNN reported.
Search and rescue teams, who suspended their efforts today, would check the area where there had been reports of a crash, in Oksibil district, on Monday morning.
The nation’s search and rescue agency tweeted that the domestic flight, which left Sentani Airport in Jayapura at 2:22 p.m. and was scheduled to land in Oksibil at about 3:16 p.m., lost contact with air traffic control in Papua province Sunday afternoon.
Transportation Ministry spokesman J.A. Barata said that the plane lost contact at about 2:55 p.m., adding that there was no indication that a distress call was made from the plane.
