Modi tried ‘Guj Model’ to break house Oppn unity: AICC leader

Jamshedpur: Describing the suspension of Congress MPs as an instance of the “Gujarat Model” during Narendra Modi’s tenure, Congress today accused the NDA government of deliberately targeting the party with sole aim to break the Opposition unity.

Narendra Modi-led government had to make a U-turn on the amendments proposed in the Land Acquisition Bill 2013 under pressure from the Congress with support from the Opposition parties, AICC spokesman Ajoy Kumar told reporters here.

Kumar said the BJP government was also scared to face the forthcoming Assembly poll in Bihar in view of the simmering anger among the poor farmers and common men about the proposed bill, which he described as “black law.”

Blaming the Modi government of “plotting to break” the Opposition unity by suspending 25 Congress members in the lok Sabha, he said the move has boomranged as more Opposition parties came out in support of Congress.

The suspension brought back memories of the Gujarat Model, he said, referring to how all the Congress MLAs had been suspended by the Gujarat government in Modi’s regime.

Kumar also flayed the “autocratic and Hitler-type” functioning of Modi government.

Kumar said the sole motive of the government behind bringing in amendment in the Land Acquisition Bill was to extend benefit to selected few industrialists to promote economic corridors between Mumbai-Delhi, Chennai-Mumbai etc.

He warned “even if all of our MPs are suspended, we will continue to protest on the streets against the government functioning in an autocratic manner.”

Taking a dig at Modi’s ‘Man ki Baat’ program, the Congress leader said the government did not have fund to improve the health, education sectors as well as the functioning of the Anganwadis in the country whereas it was spending Rs 850 crore for the program.

“Modi government does not have fund to implement the proposed ‘One Rank One Pension’ schemes, health and education sector, but it is spending Rs 850 crore for ‘Man ki Baat’ programme,” Kumar said.

He also urged the Prime Minister to break his silence on the VYAPAM scam.
