Karachi: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif praised his Indian counterpart for visiting Islamabad saying it was a gesture of goodwill and hoped that the ties between the nations are uplifted in the future.
According to Dunya News, Sharif said that the hostile neighbours and its citizens can only prosper if their conflicts had resolved.
Sharif, received PM Modi at the airport on 25th December with a hug and then flew him to his home near Lahore, where the two leaders held talks for over an hour.
“Spent a warm evening with Sharif family at their family home. Nawaz Sahab’s birthday & granddaughter’s marriage made it a double celebration,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted after landing in Delhi.
This was the Prime Minister’s first visit to Pakistan since taking office last year.
Sharif’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said earlier that the Prime Minister’s visit has been welcomed by majority of people in Pakistan and India and the international community.
He said the warmth of relations created by the Lahore meeting will hopefully have an impact on the formal dialogue.
