MP Kavitha: Next Cabinet expansion would see induction of women

Hyderabad: Nizamabad MP K Kavitha has made comments on Telangana Cabinet that has drawn the attention of women leaders in Telangana. Expressing disappointment and regret at the lack of women Ministers in the Telangana Cabinet, MP assured that the next Cabinet expansion would see induction of women.

Ms.Kavitha said women were leaders by birth, only restricted by lack of opportunities. They made better leaders by virtue of ability to address problems with more sensitivity and holistic approach.

Interacting with members of 150 Young FICCI Ladies Organisation (YFLO), she said that it is a matter of concern for women leaders finding no berths in Telangana cabinet and termed it as “unfortunate and sad” that the Cabinet had not a single woman member.

Answering a question by an YFLO member, MP Kavitha said “I’m also on your side in this. Even I will raise a question on what basis selection of members in the cabinet is made.”

Later, talking to the media, she said women’s interests would not be compromised even if there were no women Cabinet members, as the Chief Minister was compassionate about their issues and had introduced many welfare schemes for their benefit.

Indian women constituted 17 per cent of the world population, and any change in so many lives would bring a large change, she said citing increased literacy levels and visible change in attitudes towards women.

She urged YFLO to take lead in educating and mentoring women entrepreneurs, and requested the attendees to come up with investment for formation of women clusters in her constituency, Nizamabad.
